Deck overview

Archelos, Lagoon Mystic commands a Sultai Gates ramp and stax strategy that breaks the inherent drawback of taplands while restricting opponents' tempo. By keeping Archelos untapped, normally slow Gates and utility lands enter untapped, allowing the deck to accelerate mana velocity significantly ahead of curve. Conversely, tapping Archelos with cards like Springleaf Drum or Smuggler's Copter forces all opposing lands, creatures, and artifacts to enter tapped, severely dampening opposing aggressive and combo sequencing. The deck converts its expansive land base into victory through Maze's End—often accelerated decisively with Reshape the Earth—or through combat beatdown fueled by Baldur's Gate, Basilisk Gate, and Gatebreaker Ram. Additionally, an infinite mana engine with Sage of the Maze and Freed from the Real provides a compact backup route to animate and swing with lethal lands.
