Deck overview

This deck is a high-velocity Golgari midrange strategy commanded by The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride. The primary game plan converts heavily under-costed, high-power creatures like Kalakscion, Hunger Tyrant, Pugnacious Hammerskull, and Daemogoth Titan into massive card draw and land ramp. Because Gitrog features native haste and trample, it attacks the turn it enters, saddles an oversized creature, and deals combat damage to draw 5 to 11 cards while deploying up to that many lands onto the battlefield tapped. This explosive resource acceleration fuels game-ending landfall engines like Avenger of Zendikar and Rampaging Baloths, group slug drain through Psychosis Crawler, Ob Nixilis, the Fallen, and Retreat to Hagra, or lethal mana sinks like Exsanguinate and Genesis Wave. A robust suite of 1-mana reanimation and protection spells shields Gitrog and recycles sacrificed creatures.
