Deck overview

This Sultai deck helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary revolves around casting high-cost {X} spells to generate massive Hydra tokens and overwhelm opponents through combat damage and direct life drain. The deck features a robust ramp package consisting of early mana dorks, rocks, and specialized engines like Nexos and Fanatic of Rhonas, enabling a consistent Turn 3 Zaxara deployment. Once assembled on Turn 4, Zaxara accelerates mana by two and turns every subsequent X-spell into a significant board presence. Counter doublers such as Branching Evolution, Doubling Season, and Unbound Flourishing exponentially scale the power of threats like Primordial Hydra and Hydroid Krasis. Combat evasion from Herald of Secret Streams and Garruk's Uprising allows the deck to close games reliably by Turn 7, with Torment of Hailfire and Exsanguinate providing non-combat reach. While vulnerable to board wipes and lacking unconditional tutors, the deck maintains resilience through high redundancy and burst draw spells.
