Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends defensive pillowfort politics, toxic and infect threats, and a unique sudden-death commander strategy. Early turns focus on deploying efficient blockers, rattlesnake permanents like Phyrexian Obliterator, and goad auras such as Ghoulish Impetus to redirect incoming combat steps toward opponents. Meanwhile, cheap infect creatures like Plague Stinger and Inkmoth Nexus chip in poison counters. On Turn 5, casting Zenos yae Galvus sets up the endgame by marking an enemy creature. Removing that creature transforms Zenos into Shinryu, Transcendent Rival, linking table victory directly to the defeat of a single chosen player. The deck leverages Shinryu's 8/8 flying frame, combat pump spells like Hatred, and proliferate engines to burst down the designated target, bypassing the requirement to chew through all three opponents' life totals manually. The strategy is backed by extensive creature removal and mono-black mana doublers like Cabal Coffers.
