Deck overview

This mono-black deck is an aristocrats and attrition strategy commanded by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The deck focuses on accelerating into substantial mana reserves using cheap rocks, dark rituals, and doublers like Crypt Ghast and Cabal Coffers. Once sufficient mana is established, it deploys sacrifice outlets alongside enter-the-battlefield edicts and discard creatures. Avacyn breaks parity by returning all nontoken creatures that die back to the battlefield at the beginning of each end step, creating a repeating cycle of board suppression. Opponents are systematically stripped of creatures and cards while life drain engines such as Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Kokusho, the Evening Star, and Vein Ripper chip away at total life. The deck closes games around Turn 8 through accumulated drain, aerial combat, or a decisive Living Death.
