Monarch by mathcardozo

Format: Commander

Commander: Garland, Royal Kidnapper

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This Dimir theft-and-goad deck helmed by Garland, Royal Kidnapper aims to seize control of the game by making an opponent the monarch and then stealing their creatures for as long as they hold that title. The deck supplements this with a dense suite of theft spells, reanimation effects, and goad auras to force opponents' creatures into advantageous attacks. The primary win condition is combat damage from stolen and reanimated creatures, often buffed by Garland's +2/+2 anthem for creatures you don't own. Secondary paths include using Sepulchral Primordial or The Cyber-Controller to mass-steal from graveyards, and Toxic Deluge or Bringer of the Last Gift to reset the board while retaining your own stolen army. The deck is a slow, value-oriented control build that relies on incremental advantage rather than fast combos.
