Deck overview

This mono-black deck is led by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, an 8/8 flying commander that returns every nontoken creature you control that dies back to the battlefield at the next end step. The deck functions primarily as an Aristocrats and reanimator engine, combining sacrifice outlets, recurring creatures, and life-draining payoffs. Early turns focus on developing mana, filling the graveyard with tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb, and establishing board-controlling enchantments such as Grave Pact. The primary win condition is an infinite life-drain loop using Warren Soultrader, Gravecrawler, and a drain piece like Blood Artist or Zulaport Cutthroat. Alternatively, the deck can overwhelm opponents with massive devotion swings from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, sweeping reanimation through Behold the Sinister Six! and Breach the Multiverse, or commander damage with Avacyn. While resilient against creature-based strategies and removal, the deck remains vulnerable to rest-in-peace style graveyard exile and stack-based combo decks.
