CotW: Biting Wolf Midrange by GrantNowa

Format: Commander

Commander: Chief of the Wilds

Bracket: 3

DeckCheck Threat Index: 36

Deck overview

This Golgari deck utilizes Chief of the Wilds as both a scaling combat threat and an ability doubler for Wolf permanents. The game plan accelerates mana on early turns, establishes the commander on Turn 3 or 4, and deploys Wolves to rapidly place +1/+1 counters on the commander. With each entering Wolf triggering multiple counters, Chief of the Wilds quickly threatens lethal commander damage while generating a board of 2/2 tokens. A dense package of green and black bite spells converts the power of these large creatures into board control. The deck protects its primary attackers using a broad suite of 1-mana and 2-mana hexproof and indestructible combat tricks. Matches are closed out either by delivering lethal commander damage or by resolving an overrun effect like Overwhelming Stampede to overwhelm remaining opponents.
