Life is Pain, Jerry by CatsUncle

Format: Commander

Commander: Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls

Bracket: 2

Deck overview

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls is the engine of a black-red group-slug attrition deck. The main goal is to assemble multiple life-loss triggers that fire every turn - Sulfuric Vortex, Spiteful Visions, Stormfist Crusader, Spellshock, and Painful Quandary - so opponents bleed during each upkeep and each spell cast. Valgavoth turns the first life-loss event on each opponent's turn into a draw and a +1/+1 counter, becoming both a card-advantage engine and a growing evasive threat. Secondary paths include commander damage from a large Valgavoth and burst drains from Gray Merchant of Asphodel or Syr Konrad, the Grim. No hidden commander exists; Vial Smasher, Mogis, and Kaervek are additional payoff pieces. The plan is redundant but slow and must outlast faster decks.
