Deck overview

This is a mono-black stax-control deck helmed by Tergrid, God of Fright, built to force opponents into a constant cycle of sacrifice and discard, then steal the best permanents they lose. The primary game plan revolves around deploying Tergrid early, then using symmetrical pressure effects (Smallpox, Pox, Braids, Cabal Minion, Smokestack) to empty opponents' boards and hands, converting every lost permanent into an asset under your control. The deck packs a robust suite of discard-focused stax pieces (Bottomless Pit, Oppression, Maralen of the Mornsong) that also feed value engines like Waste Not and Geth's Grimoire. Finishing options include the Maralen + Opposition Agent lock (which effectively ends the game by controlling opponents' searches and draws), a massive Torment of Hailfire with Cabal Coffers mana, or the devotion-based drain from Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Tergrid's back face, Tergrid's Lantern, provides an additional forced-choice effect to steadily bleed opponents. The deck is slow, grindy, and resilient in incremental advantage, but vulnerable to graveyard hate and artifact/enchantment removal that cuts off its key enablers.
