Deck overview

This mono-black competitive deck blends fast combo execution with oppressive stax pieces. Led by Maralen of the Mornsong, the list can establish a hard lockout alongside Opposition Agent by stripping opponents of draw steps while exiling their searched cards. However, the deck primarily aims to win via a compact two-card infinite combo featuring Professor Onyx and Chain of Smog, dealing lethal drain in a single turn. Fueling this strategy is a premier acceleration package containing Dark Ritual, Mana Vault, and Chrome Mox, complemented by high-volume draw engines such as Ad Nauseam, Necropotence, and Peer into the Abyss. To prevent faster opposing wins, the deck deploys symmetric and asymmetric denial pieces including Trinisphere, Contamination, Null Rod, and Chains of Mephistopheles. This layered approach lets the deck race with fast combo kills or slow down the table until it can safely execute its win conditions.
