Deck overview

This deck is a high-power Rakdos group slug and midrange strategy helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls. The strategy revolves around deploying cheap, symmetrical life-loss permanents such as Razorkin Needlehead, Roiling Vortex, and Underworld Dreams. While these cards steadily bleed opponents during their own draw steps and turns, Valgavoth breaks parity completely by gaining +1/+1 counters and drawing a card whenever an opponent loses life for the first time each turn. This floods your hand with resources while opponents struggle under oppressive taxes like Manabarbs and Painful Quandary. The deck finishes games rapidly around turn 6, either by dropping lethal damage multipliers like Bloodletter of Aclazotz and Solphim, Mayhem Dominus, casting a massive Chandra's Ignition, or triggering the instant-kill two-card infinite combo of Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank.
