Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk kindred strategy commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It leverages low-cost Merfolk to establish early board presence before deploying Hakbal on Turn 3 or 4. At the beginning of each combat phase, Hakbal triggers an explore ability for every Merfolk you control, rapidly growing your creatures with +1/+1 counters while putting revealed lands directly into hand and filtering away unwanted topdecks. Hakbal's attack trigger provides further mana acceleration and card draw. Once a sizable board is assembled, the deck transitions into lethal combat damage using evasion enablers like Herald of Secret Streams and Deepchannel Mentor, or one-sided mass bounce such as Raise the Palisade and Wave Goodbye. The deck backs its aggressive creature clock with efficient counterspells and dedicated board protection including Heroic Intervention and Ripples of Potential.
