Deck overview

Sauron, the Dark Lord is the central value engine. The preferred setup is Call of the Ring followed by a six-mana Sauron, the Dark Lord, allowing each upkeep Ring temptation to convert a weak or empty hand into four new cards. Opponent spell casts add Orc counters, while Nazgûl and Lord of the Nazgûl provide a secondary Wraith plan. Reanimation spells can cheat large creatures such as Archon of Cruelty and Sheoldred, Whispering One into play, and Bolas's Citadel or Torment of Hailfire are potential late-game payoffs. The deck has useful counters and protection, but its average curve is high and its access package is not dense enough to assemble a protected win. The ordinary plan reaches a usable engine around turn 7, yet that engine is value rather than a reliable critical threat. It therefore has no supported finish clock or total lockout.
