Commander: The Howling Abomination

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Gruul spellslinger deck built around The Howling Abomination, a commander with haste that grows and deals damage to each opponent whenever it becomes the target of a spell. The deck aims to chain cheap cantrips and pump spells that target the commander (or other creatures) to trigger copy effects from Zada, Hedron Grinder and Mirrorwing Dragon, generating massive card advantage and damage. The primary win conditions are storming off with Grapeshot or Aetherflux Reservoir, or overwhelming opponents with a massively pumped, double-striking commander. The deck also includes a suite of pinger creatures like Guttersnipe and Electrostatic Field that chip away while the storm count builds. The commander's haste allows immediate attacks, and the single extra-combat spell Seize the Day can accelerate kills.
