Deck overview

This mono-black Commander deck is built around Tergrid, God of Fright, leveraging symmetric sacrifice and discard effects to generate overwhelming asymmetric card and board advantage. The primary strategy accelerates into Tergrid on Turn 4 using efficient artifact mana and rituals, then resolves mass discard spells like Dark Deal or repeatable edicts like Plaguecrafter and Dictate of Erebos on Turn 5. By stealing every sacrificed nontoken permanent and discarded permanent card, the deck rapidly empties opposing hands and boards while amassing a massive battlefield. The deck closes the game around Turn 7 through combat damage with stolen armies, augmented by drain effects from Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Torment of Hailfire, and Mirkwood Bats. While exceptionally oppressive against creature-centric decks, it remains vulnerable to well-timed spot removal targeting Tergrid before payoff spells resolve.
