Aegar8/10

Format: Commander

Commander: Aegar, the Freezing Flame

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a **Izzet Giants midrange tribal** deck helmed by Aegar, the Freezing Flame, built around a core synergy: Aegar's triggered ability draws cards whenever a creature or planeswalker an opponent controls is dealt **excess damage** by a Giant, Wizard, or a spell you control. The deck capitalizes on this by deploying large Giants with high power and numerous damage spells-direct, fight, or recurring-to turn every point of extra damage into card advantage. The primary win condition is overwhelming combat damage via mass-trampling, double-strike, **Calamity Bearer** and **Granuitous Violence** for doubled damage, backed by etb damage triggers like **Warstorm Surge** and **Bonebreaker Giant**. While it lacks infinite combos, it aims to out-value opponents by drawing into more threats and stacking multiplicative damage layers. Supporting pieces like **Bitter Reunion** for haste, **Stinkdrinker Daredevil** for cost reduction, and **Call to the Kindred** for slow tutoring give the tribe glue. The deck is highly commander-dependent because Aegar is the primary draw engine, and its removal suite is creature-focused with limited counterspells.
