Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain midrange strategy commanded by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. The primary game plan revolves around deploying low-cost lifegain enablers such as Soul Warden and Soul's Attendant, which trigger repeatedly across opposing turns to fuel Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel's card-drawing ability. As card advantage accumulates, the deck transitions into the mid-to-late game by deploying formidable threats like Sunscorch Regent, Nykthos Paragon, and Divinity of Pride, or assembling alternate victory conditions such as Felidar Sovereign. The deck leverages incremental life drain from sources like Obzedat, Ghost Council and a potential late-game Debt to the Deathless to close out games through evasive combat damage. While the deck boasts immense card draw once the commander is operational alongside potent sweepers like Farewell and protection in Clever Concealment, its high average mana curve, light ramp package (34 lands and only Sol Ring), and lack of tutoring create reliance on natural draws.
