Deck overview

This is a Sultai X-spell and +1/+1-counter midrange deck helmed by Zaxara, the Exemplary. Zaxara is a four-mana Nightmare Hydra that taps for two mana of any one color and, whenever you cast a spell with {X} in its cost, creates a 0/0 Hydra token and puts X +1/+1 counters on it. The ninety-nine is built to feed that trigger: X-cost Hydras, X-draw, and the drain finishers Torment of Hailfire and Exsanguinate, backed by counter-doublers (Doubling Season, Branching Evolution, Unbound Flourishing) and cost helpers (Zimone, Infinite Analyst, Gargos, Vicious Watcher). The main win is a wide Hydra army that connects through trample, haste, or Herald of Secret Streams; the backup is a large X-drain once Selvala, Heart of the Wilds or Nyxbloom Ancient explodes the mana. There are no infinite combos. Zaxara is the best token-and-mana engine in the list, but the Hydras and drain spells still function if he is absent.
