Deck overview

The deck has two commanders with complementary combat abilities. Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator attacks through the air and creates Treasures when Pirates damage opponents, while Kediss, Emberclaw Familiar spreads commander damage to the other players. That plan supplies incremental mana and pressure, but it does not normally become lethal quickly. The stronger primary route is the compact Niv-Mizzet, Parun plus Curiosity combo. Dizzy Spell can find Curiosity, and the deck contains many cheap instants and sorceries to start the loop. The main weakness is access to the singleton Niv-Mizzet, Parun, combined with the six colored mana required to cast it. With ordinary draws and competent sequencing, the combo is usable around turn 7. Once a starter is cast, the loop can kill all three opponents that turn, but the aura and setup remain exposed to removal, and holding protection competes with assembling the combo.
