Robert's Hakbal Deck by DillyDally

Format: Commander

Commander: Hakbal of the Surging Soul

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This is a Simic Merfolk tribal midrange list helmed by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The plan is to flood the board with Merfolk, then use Hakbal's beginning-of-combat explore trigger to stack +1/+1 counters while his attack trigger drops extra lands or draws cards. Lords such as Master of the Pearl Trident, Merfolk Mistbinder, Merrow Reejerey, and Attuma, Atlantean Warlord turn that wide board into real damage, and Herald of Secret Streams makes every creature with a counter unblockable. A parallel counters theme supports Simic Ascendancy as an alternate win and makes Wave Goodbye one-sided. Token engines like Deeproot Waters and Emperor Mihail II refill after trades, while Kindred Discovery and Tatyova, Benthic Druid convert tribal and landfall loops into cards. There are no infinite combos; the deck wins through combat or Ascendancy. Hakbal is the primary value engine, but the tribal plan still functions if he is removed.
