Deck overview

Hakbal of the Surging Soul commands a synergistic Simic deck combining Merfolk tribal aggression with +1/+1 counters and continuous explore card advantage. The deck curves low-drop Merfolk into a Turn 4 Hakbal, immediately buffing the board and smoothing land drops. In the mid-game, it converts counter accumulation into unblockable lethality through Herald of Secret Streams and Master Biomancer, or resets opposing blockers using Wave Goodbye. The deck also carries a compact infinite untap and mana combo via Kiora's Follower and Illusionist's Bracers, providing an alternate win route through Walking Ballista or Simic Ascendancy. Strong interaction and protection spells keep the engine resilient across table rotations.
