Deck overview

This is a Gruul ramp-and-impulse midrange deck helmed by Hugs, Grisly Guardian. The plan is to accelerate lands aggressively, cast Hugs for a meaningful X to exile a pile of cards, then convert the impulse window plus Hugs's extra land drop into a critical mass of ramp payoffs and haymakers. Primary wins come from overwhelming combat (often pumped by Finale of Devastation or Return of the Wildspeaker), big X-spells like Crackle with Power, and the classic Dark Depths + Thespian's Stage Marit Lage line. Secondary value engines include cascade piles off Apex Devastator, free spells from Etali, Primal Conqueror, and landfall snowballs with Avenger of Zendikar, Tifa Lockhart, and Springheart Nantuko. Hugs is a strong engine but not a hard lock-piece; the 99 still ramps and closes without him.
