Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov lifegain control deck helmed by Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel. It pairs cheap lifegain enablers such as Soul Warden, Auriok Champion, and Authority of the Consuls with scaling payoffs and drain engines. The early game establishes passive lifegain and defensive speed bumps to cushion the life total. On Turn 5, casting the commander turns every subsequent lifegain trigger into explosive card draw. This surge of card advantage quickly digs into game-ending win conditions, such as Felidar Sovereign, Aetherflux Reservoir, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, or Approach of the Second Sun. To secure these plays, the deck runs a strong protection package featuring Grand Abolisher, Silence, Voice of Victory, and Dawn's Truce alongside exile-based spot removal and board wipes like Toxic Deluge and The Meathook Massacre. The result is a resilient engine that outlasts aggression and closes out games decisively.
