Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends aristocrats synergy with heavy board control and big-mana payoffs. Led by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the strategy focuses on playing Swamps on curve, deploying sacrifice fodder, and using asymmetric sacrifice tools like Grave Pact and Sheoldred, Whispering One to suppress opposing boards. Mana engines such as Cabal Coffers and Crypt Ghast fuel high-impact plays including Rise of the Dark Realms, Archon of Cruelty, and the commander itself. When Avacyn is on the battlefield, any nontoken creature that dies returns at the beginning of the next end step, allowing board wipes like Damnation and Blood Money to break parity completely. Life drain from Ayara, First of Locthwain and Syr Konrad, the Grim steadily whittles down opponents while large flying threats close out the game.
