Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black aristocrats and attrition strategy commanded by Braids, Arisen Nightmare. The primary game plan revolves around deploying cheap, expendable noncreature permanents like Hopeless Nightmare, Ichor Wellspring, and Blood Fountain in the early turns, then casting Braids, Arisen Nightmare on Turn 3. At each end step, sacrificing noncreature fodder forces opponents to either sacrifice hard-to-replace permanent types or suffer life loss while fueling massive card draw. The resulting card advantage easily digs into redundant aristocrat drain engines including Bastion of Remembrance, Zulaport Cutthroat, Ayara, First of Locthwain, and Syr Konrad, the Grim. Symmetrical edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and Accursed Marauder strip opposing boards while triggering mass drain. Reanimation spells like Victimize and Dread Return repeatedly loop Gray Merchant of Asphodel to close the game around Turn 9.
