Deck overview

This Simic deck commands an aggressive Merfolk tribal strategy led by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. The primary game plan curves out with efficient Merfolk creatures during the first three turns, followed by deploying Hakbal on Turn 4. Hakbal immediately supercharges the board by triggering explore for every Merfolk at the beginning of combat, rapidly smoothing land drops, drawing cards, and growing creature power via +1/+1 counters. By Turn 5, the deck transitions into a lethal threat by pairing its counter-buffed board with unblockable evasion from Herald of Secret Streams or islandwalk enablers like Lord of Atlantis and Harbinger of the Seas. Supported by resilient protection spells like Ripples of Potential and Vodalian Hexcatcher, the deck maintains steady pressure and card advantage, closing the game through decisive combat swings by Turn 7.
