Deck overview

Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls commands an aggressive Rakdos group slug deck that weaponizes mandatory game actions against opponents while fueling continuous card advantage. The deck aims to deploy cheap, persistent damage sources on the first two turns, such as Razorkin Needlehead, Roiling Vortex, or Ankh of Mishra. Once Valgavoth enters the battlefield on Turn 4, any opponent losing life on their turn triggers a +1/+1 counter and draws a card, yielding up to three extra cards per turn cycle. The strategy scales rapidly by introducing damage multipliers like Solphim, Mayhem Dominus and Torbran, Thane of Red Fell, alongside punishing stax effects like Manabarbs and Rug of Smothering. Anti-lifegain cards prevent opponents from stabilizing, while Kardur, Doomscourge redirects aggression. The game concludes around Turn 7 through compounded burn and lethal flying commander damage.
