Deck overview

This Abzan deck uses Betor, Ancestor's Voice to turn life gain and life loss into a compounding battlefield engine. Early turns establish mana acceleration and load the graveyard through efficient self-mill cards like Overlord of the Balemurk and Ripples of Undeath. Once Betor enters the battlefield, pain lands, fetchlands, and life-paying spells trigger end-step reanimation while lifegain triggers grow your board with +1/+1 counters. The deck transitions into a lethal threat state on Turn 5 by reanimating or hardcasting game-ending permanents such as Vilis, Broker of Blood, Valgavoth, Terror Eater, Bolas's Citadel, and Archangel of Thune. These powerhouses draw deep into the library, drain enemy life totals, and create massive flying and trampling attackers. A versatile Abzan removal suite protects your development and answers critical opposing permanents, while redundant recursion engines ensure the deck recovers smoothly from board wipes and grinds opponents out by Turn 7.
