Deck overview

This deck is a Rakdos Big-Mana and Burn Midrange strategy built around Smaug the Impenetrable. Smaug is an 8/7 flying, indestructible, haste Dragon that generates a Treasure token for each point of noncombat damage dealt to it. The deck uses early Treasure generators and mana rocks to ramp Smaug onto the battlefield on Turn 5. Once Smaug is active, the deck casts heavy noncombat damage spells such as Star of Extinction, Desolation of Smaug, and Pestilence. Because Smaug is indestructible, these sweepers clear opposing creatures while targeting Smaug to produce up to 20 Treasure tokens in a single turn. These Treasures immediately fund lethal game-ending outlets, including Hellkite Tyrant, Revel in Riches, and aristocrat pingers like Mirkwood Bats, Mayhem Devil, and Reckless Fireweaver. If Smaug is answered, the deck easily transitions into an independent aerial Dragon beatdown plan led by Terror of the Peaks and Wrathful Red Dragon.
