Format: Commander

Commander: Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls

Bracket: 4

Deck overview

This Rakdos deck, helmed by Valgavoth, Harrower of Souls, is a punishing life-drain machine built on a foundation of symmetrical pain effects and incremental loss triggers. Each opponent's every action - tapping a land (Manabarbs, Citadel of Pain, Zo-Zu the Punisher), drawing a card (Underworld Dreams, Sheoldred, the Apocalypse, Orcish Bowmasters), or casting a spell (Rug of Smothering, Mai, Scornful Striker) - chips away at their life total while filling your hand with Valgavoth's triggered draws. The deck's primary win paths are infinite combo loops: Exquisite Blood + Vito, Thorn of the Dusk Rose or Bloodthirsty Conqueror; Gravecrawler + Warren Soultrader + Vein Ripper; and the classic Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank mill-drain. A dense tutor package (Buried Alive, Entomb, Beseech the Mirror, Grim Tutor) assembles these pieces quickly, while ritual mana (Dark Ritual, Culling the Weak) and a handful of rocks accelerate the clock. The commander both refuels and threatens to grow into a flying beater, but the deck does not rely on Valgavoth to win - the combos live in the 99.
