Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker is the engine for a mono-black Shadowborn Apostle deck. The commander returns low-power creatures at end step, letting the deck sacrifice the same six Apostles every turn to tutor Demons and trigger repeated death payoffs. The primary plan is to chain Archfiend of Despair, Rune-Scarred Demon, and Secret Salvage into one large mid-game drain turn; the hidden commander is Shadowborn Apostle, whose 28 copies are both the sacrifice package and the deck's own tutor engine. Secondary paths are Demon beatdown with Razaketh/Vilis and the Liliana's Contract alternate win. The deck is synergy-dense but vulnerable to Shirei removal and graveyard hate, so it leans on Shirei, recursion, and quick assembly.
