Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends classic aristocrats sacrifice synergies with a potent reanimation package. Helmed by Avacyn, Angel of Horror, the deck focuses on turning creature deaths into compounding advantages. Early turns focus on developing sacrificial fodder such as Orcish Bowmasters and establishing acceleration through rituals or low-cost rocks. By Turn 4, engines like Yawgmoth, Thran Physician or Chthonian Nightmare begin drawing cards and picking apart opposing boards. Critical pressure arrives on Turn 5 via asymmetric drain pieces like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Bloodletter of Aclazotz, or mass graveyard returns via Living Death. Because the deck operates without compact infinite combos, it closes out games over two response cycles by draining opponents and attacking with evasive threats, sealing the win on Turn 7. Its resilience lies in using the graveyard as an extended hand, though it remains vulnerable to mass exile and noncreature permanents.
