Deck overview

This Golgari deck is commanded by Rendmaw, Creaking Nest, turning every multi-type spell—such as artifact creatures, enchantment creatures, and artifact lands—into a token engine that gifts each player a goaded 2/2 flying Bird. By seeding the battlefield with forced attackers, Rendmaw directs combat away from you and forces opponents to damage each other. The deck leverages this manufactured creature density through asymmetric punishers, aristocrat engines, and mass token payoffs. Cards like Massacre Wurm and Maelstrom Pulse weaponize opposing Bird swarms into devastating one-sided wipes and direct life loss, while Species Specialist, Pygmy Kavu, and Deathreap Ritual convert combat casualties into overwhelming card advantage. Supported by dense two-mana ramp, the deck smoothly deploys Rendmaw on Turn 4, orchestrates table-wide combat attrition on Turn 5, and finishes games on Turn 7 using Triumph of the Hordes or aristocrat drain from Mirkwood Bats and Bastion of Remembrance.
