Deck overview

This deck is an Orzhov Aristocrats engine helmed by Athreos, God of Passage. The game plan revolves around deploying inexpensive creature fodder, establishing sacrifice outlets, and taxing opponents' life totals whenever creatures die. Athreos presents opponents with a punitive dilemma: pay 3 life or allow dead creatures to return directly to your hand. Supported by acceleration like Jet Medallion and Lotho, Corrupt Shirriff, the deck smoothly transitions from early board development into suffocating midgame attrition via Grave Pact, The Meathook Massacre, and Painful Quandary. While the list lacks instant-speed combo finishes, its compounding drain effects, life buffers, and board control consistently run opponents out of resources and grind the table down by Turn 9.
