Deck overview

This deck is a Dimir Rat tribal attrition engine helmed by Vren, the Relentless. The strategy revolves around deploying early mana acceleration, resolving Vren on turn 3 or 4, and casting asymmetric edicts and board wipes like Toxic Deluge or Sheoldred's Edict. Vren replaces opposing creature deaths with exile, completely shutting down opposing graveyard strategies while manufacturing an overwhelming army of scaling Relentless Rat tokens at each end step. Card draw engines such as Skullclamp, Necrodominance, and Species Specialist keep hand sizes full, while counterspells like Fierce Guardianship and Swan Song protect the commander. The deck finishes games by overwhelming opponents with massive evasive Rats grant fear or menace, draining life totals with Valley Rotcaller, or assembling the infinite token combo of Marrow-Gnawer and Thornbite Staff.
