Commander: Balthor the Defiled

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a mono-black graveyard reanimator deck helmed by Balthor the Defiled. The plan is to rapidly fill the graveyard via dredge, mill, and tutors like Buried Alive and Entomb, then mass-reanimate a critical mass of black creatures through Living Death, reanimation auras, or Balthor's activated ability. Payoffs center on devotion drains (Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Ayara, First of Locthwain), death triggers (Kokusho, the Evening Star, Syr Konrad, the Grim, Vein Ripper), and raw board presence from demons such as Vilis, Broker of Blood, Razaketh, the Foulblooded, and Archon of Cruelty. The deck plays as classic midrange reanimator: early self-mill and rituals into a decisive reanimation turn that drains or overwhelms the table. Balthor is a powerful one-shot mass reanimation outlet but is not required for the 99's core lines.
