Commander: Smaug the Impenetrable

Deck overview

This is a Rakdos Dragon-tribal deck built around Treasure generation and burn, helmed by Smaug the Impenetrable. The commander is a 7-mana 8/7 with flying, indestructible, and haste who creates a Treasure token for each point of noncombat damage he takes - a unique self-synergy the deck exploits by pointing its own burn spells at him. The primary plan is to ramp into a board of Dragons, generate a critical mass of Treasures, and close the game with either overwhelming combat damage or X-spell finishers like Crackle with Power and Exsanguinate. Secondary win conditions include the artifact-count alternate wins of Hellkite Tyrant and Knuckles the Echidna. The deck plays as a midrange value pile: it wants to out-muscle the table with evasive Dragons while accruing Treasure-based mana advantage, then convert that mana into a single massive burn spell.
