Why You Hittin Yourself? by MTGenesis

Format: Commander

Commander: Polukranos, Unchained

Bracket: 3

Deck overview

This is a Golgari +1/+1 counters midrange deck helmed by Polukranos, Unchained. The plan is to deploy counter-doublers and adders (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Corpsejack Menace, Doubling Season), grow a critical mass of modified threats, and close through oversized combat, Triumph of the Hordes infect, or payoff loops with Walking Ballista and Altar of Dementia. Polukranos, Unchained is a resilient fight-based beater with a strong Escape clause, but the 99 is a self-sufficient counters pile-Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, Host of the Hereafter, The Ozolith, and the hydra suite all advance the plan without him. Secondary engines include Seedborn Muse untap value, The Great Henge / Rishkar's Expertise card flow, and Genesis Wave board dumps. The deck wins by turning every counter placement into exponential board presence, then converting that mass into table-wide damage or mill.
