Deck overview

This deck is a Mono-Black Aristocrats and attrition strategy helmed by Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The deck focuses on assembling efficient sacrifice outlets, recursive fodder, and aristocrat drain engines early in the game. It uses potent mono-black acceleration such as Dark Ritual, Cabal Coffers, and Crypt Ghast to rapidly deploy high-impact threats. Once Avacyn, Angel of Horror enters the battlefield, any nontoken creature sacrificed returns at the beginning of each end step, turning symmetrical edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and Accursed Marauder into recurring board locks. Powerful life-draining finishers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Archfiend of Despair, and Bolas's Citadel quickly close out the game by depleting opposing life totals table-wide. While the deck boasts immense card draw and resilient graveyard recursion, it relies heavily on permanent-based engines and has limited answers to noncreature permanents.
