Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul spellslinger and storm-adjacent burn strategy commanded by The Howling Abomination. The game plan revolves around accelerating mana to cast the 5-mana commander, then targeting it repeatedly with 1-mana cantrips like Ancestral Anger, Expedite, and Crimson Wisps. Each cast triggers the commander to pump its own stats by +2/+2 while dealing 2 noncombat damage directly to every opponent. When augmented by engines such as Storm-Kiln Artist for mana refunding or Keen Sense for burst card draw, the deck chains numerous spells in a single turn. Supporting pingers like Guttersnipe, Firebrand Archer, and Fiery Inscription supplement table-wide attrition, while combat steps leverage the commander's natural trample and haste. The list trades away heavy stax and generic counterspells in favor of lean defensive combat tricks that protect the commander while simultaneously triggering its burn ability.
