Deck overview

This deck executes an Abzan stax and midrange strategy led by Thalia and The Gitrog Monster. The commander slows down opposing development by forcing creatures and nonbasic lands to enter tapped, while providing extra land drops and card draw. The deck locks out opposing game plans using tax pieces, search denial, and artifact suppression like Archon of Emeria, Opposition Agent, and Collector Ouphe. After grinding down opponents and generating massive mana through extra land drops or Gaea's Cradle, the deck closes out the game using overrun effects such as Finale of Devastation, Triumph of the Hordes, or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.
