Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul creature-stax and stompy strategy commanded by Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. Designed almost entirely with permanent cards, the list completely avoids noncreature spells (with the sole exception of Primal Surge) to break parity on Ruric Thar's 6-damage trigger. The early game accelerates through mana dorks like Birds of Paradise and Fanatic of Rhonas into a Turn 4 Ruric Thar. Once established, Ruric Thar punishes opposing removal, board wipes, and combo attempts, while hatebears like Collector Ouphe and Scytheclaw Raptor shut down artifacts and off-turn spells. The deck closes games through massive combat scaling with Xenagos, God of Revels, Terror of the Peaks, Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus, and Craterhoof Behemoth, or instantly flips the entire library onto the battlefield if Primal Surge resolves.
