Deck overview

This Orzhov midrange deck centers on Niv-Mizzet, Ghost Counsel, leveraging dense lifegain synergies to fuel an extensive card-draw engine and attrition clock. Early turns focus on establishing growing threats like Ajani's Pridemate and Twinblade Paladin alongside soul sisters such as Hinterland Sanctifier. Once the commander enters on Turn 5 or 6, every lifegain instance converts into fresh resources, keeping the pilot's hand refueled while draining opponents. The deck boasts an exceptionally dense removal suite capable of answering diverse permanent threats at instant speed. Protection spells like Flawless Maneuver and Take Up the Shield safeguard key creatures from standard destruction. Without compact infinite combos, the deck closes the game around Turns 8 to 9 through compounded combat damage from evasive, buffed attackers, continuous drain triggers from Marauding Blight-Priest, and a devastating late-game Exsanguinate. Its primary vulnerabilities include non-destroy sweepers and high commander recast costs.
