Deck overview

This mono-black deck blends classic aristocrats sacrifice synergies with reanimator payoffs, centered around Avacyn, Angel of Horror. The game plan accelerates mana early through fast rocks, rituals, and swamp multipliers like Cabal Coffers and Crypt Ghast. By Turn 4, the deck deploys sacrifice outlets and value engines such as Yawgmoth, Thran Physician and Skullclamp to build insurmountable card advantage. On Turn 6, resolving Avacyn or Bolas's Citadel locks down the board: Avacyn returns any sacrificed nontoken creature at the beginning of the next end step, allowing players to repeatedly loop edict creatures like Plaguecrafter and devastating drain triggers like Gray Merchant of Asphodel. Supported by oppressive control pieces like Grave Pact, Tergrid, God of Fright, and The Darkness Crystal, the deck quickly strips opposing resources while rapidly draining life totals across 2 response cycles to close the game on Turn 8.
