Commander: Marneus Calgar

Bracket: 5

Deck overview

Marneus Calgar is an Esper cEDH deck built around a two-card Thoracle kill: Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact empties the library, then Thassa's Oracle wins. The commander is a value engine rather than a combo piece-his token-draw ability and Chapter Master tokens fuel card advantage, while Smothering Tithe acts as a hidden commander, with Mirrormade, Copy Enchantment, Clever Impersonator, and Flash Photography multiplying it into a treasure engine. Secondary paths are token beatdown via Ocelot Pride, Kambal, and Stridehangar Automaton, and a draw-forcing package (Faerie Mastermind, Gleaming Splendor, Tataru Taru) that turns Smothering Tithe triggers into mana. Free counterspells and Silence effects protect the kill.
