Deck overview

This deck is a Simic Merfolk tribal aggro and +1/+1 counter engine commanded by Hakbal of the Surging Soul. It leverages low-cost Merfolk creatures deployed in the early turns to trigger mass explore abilities at combat on Turn 4. Exploring simultaneously places +1/+1 counters on attackers, puts drawn lands directly into hand, and filters nonland cards. Hakbal of the Surging Soul further accelerates mana velocity by putting lands onto the battlefield on attack. The deck translates counter accumulation into overwhelming combat pressure by granting unblockability or evasion through Herald of Secret Streams, Master of the Pearl Trident, and Mist Dancer, or via one-sided board wipes like Wave Goodbye. While vulnerable to instant-speed board wipes and lacking heavy stack interaction, it features robust draw velocity, quick rebuild capability, and effective counter-based shielding via Ripples of Potential and Inspiring Call.
