Deck overview

This deck is a Gruul aggressive midrange deck commanded by Chishiro, the Shattered Blade. The strategy centers on the modified mechanic, turning Auras, Equipment, and +1/+1 counters into dual-axis board dominance. Casting modifications triggers Chishiro to create 2/2 red Spirit creature tokens with menace, while Chishiro's end-step ability places +1/+1 counters on every modified creature you control. This creates an exponential go-wide and go-tall engine that quickly overwhelms opposing defenses. The list backs up its commander with powerful independent payoffs, including Halana and Alena, Partners, Akki Battle Squad, and Avenger of Zendikar. High functional density ensures that almost every draw advances the modification game plan. While the deck lacks fast combo finishes and dedicated tutor packages, it generates substantial mid-game pressure and recovers quickly from disruption through resilient token generation and durable beatdown threats.
