Deck overview

This deck is a Grixis Midrange and Attrition strategy commanded by Sauron, the Dark Lord. The primary game plan focuses on deploying early ramp to cast Sauron by Turn 5. Once on the battlefield, Sauron punishes opponents for casting spells by continuously generating and growing an Orc Army token. When an Army deals combat damage or a Ring-tempt spell resolves, Sauron's ability allows the player to discard their hand and draw four cards. This rapid card velocity feeds game-ending attrition engines, such as Archfiend of Ifnir to clear opposing creatures and Bolas's Citadel to overwhelm the table with spells. Sauron's built-in ward cost shields him from conventional targeted removal, allowing the deck to steadily accumulate power and finish games through a combination of commander damage, massive Army attacks, and direct burn from The Great Goblin and Fiery Inscription.
