Deck overview

This deck is a mono-black control strategy built around Horobi, Death's Wail. Horobi transforms any targeted spell or ability into instant destruction. By utilizing otherwise innocuous, low-cost targeting artifacts like Distorting Lens, Tower of Coireall, Scale of Chiss-Goria, and Cauldron of Souls, the deck establishes a one-sided creature lock where opponents cannot maintain a board state. Mana acceleration from Cabal Coffers, Crypt Ghast, and Jet Medallion enables rapid deployment of Horobi alongside death-trigger payoffs like Syr Konrad, the Grim, Blood Artist, and Massacre Wurm. While the creature suppression is nearly total, the deck remains vulnerable to noncreature spells, planeswalkers, and mass artifact removal. Furthermore, because Horobi's trigger affects all creatures, traditional targeted equipment and protection spells will destroy your own commander, requiring global static protection like Eldrazi Monument instead.
